Aaliyah's 35th Birthday: Drake, Missy Elliott, Stars Remember Singer

On August 25, 2001, the music industry lost Aaliyah, who did not make it previous age 22 after a sad aircraft crash that claimed the lives of 8 different passengers. But on Thursday, Jan. Sixteen fans and celebs took to Twitter in honor of the liked "Are You That Somebody?" singer's would-be 35th birthday. 

Rapper Drake, who sang with the artist posthumously on the song "Enough Said," tweeted, "Happy birthday Aaliyah. Never forget you babe. Love you," along with a drawing of the 2 singers hugging. 

Aaliyah's longtime buddy and collaborator Missy Elliott additionally took to Twitter to discuss the milestone. 

"#HappyBirthdayAaliyah we think of u everyday we miss u more than ever! U can never be duplicated. Your a 1 in a Million!," she wrote.

At the time of her loss of life, the precocious singer — who labored intently with influential manufacturer Timbaland — had won six Billboard Music Awards, three MTV VMAs, and have been nominated for five Grammys. She is estimated to have bought 24 to 32 million albums international.
