The crew and the town had been played by way of stars Connie Britton (Tami Taylor), Kyle Chandler (Coach Taylor), Taylor Kitsch (Tim Riggins), Zach Gilford (Matt Saracen), Minka Kelly (Lyla Garrity) and Scott Porter (Jason Street), among others.

Texas local and Top Gun: Maverick big name Glen Powell published in March 2023 that he unsuccessfully auditioned for two roles on the display.

“I auditioned for J.D. McCoy,” Powell shared all the way through an look on the “It’s Not Only Football: Friday Night Lights and Beyond” podcast, hosted through Porter, Gilford and fellow actress Mae Whitman. The role of J.D. McCoy in the long run went to Jeremy Sumpter.

Porter chimed in, calling Powell “too likeable” to play that personality. “I’m telling you that at this time,” the actor persevered.

“The audition for that went so unhealthy,” Powell added. “I used to be bummed out when that did not work out. I so idea I was going to get that.”

Porter speculated that Powell was once “too young,” for the role, explaining that he was in his mid-20s when cast as Jason Street.

“You have been in reality in highschool and so they didn’t like to forged other folks in high school unless… Jesse Plemons (Landry Clarke) was once the exception,” Porter added.
