Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage has had a lengthy occupation — and an equally lengthy and a hit marriage to wife Erica Schmidt.

The twosome met just about 20 years ago at a mutual pal’s house in New York City.

“It was about 18 years ago now. We had been all at a pal’s house and someone stated, ‘They’re walking the elephants throughout the Queens-Midtown Tunnel,’” Dinklage recalled in a 2021 interview with The New York Times. “The circus used to be on the town and it was snowing, and they have been strolling the elephants via Manhattan, a long line of them. It used to be like something out of a beautiful, fantastical, end-of-the-world, loopy, romantic movie. … So that’s the night time we met, the night the elephants walked via Manhattan.”

The couple tied the knot in 2005 and welcomed a daughter in 2011 and a second child in 2017.

The power couple had been going strong since then — and have even labored on a couple of projects together, including the musical Cyrano which used to be later adapted into a movie in 2022. While Schmidt wrote the musical, Dinklage took at the titular position — which he later admitted to begging his wife for.

“Begged? Yeah. I mean, essentially, sure, that’s true,” he shared in a 2021 interview with CBS News. “For an actor, you always wanna do something that — for me at least — that scares you … I just by no means had sung since I was a kid.”

Their First Meeting

Dinklage and Schmidt first met at a mutual buddies’ space in New York City within the early 2000s, which Dinklage described to be one thing out of a “loopy, romantic movie.”

Their Elopement

Instead of a conventional marriage ceremony, the duo determined to go to Vegas and tie the knot in 2005.

“I was going there for a charity event and then whilst we had been there, we simply made up our minds to do it,” Dinklage shared in a 2016 interview with The New York Times. “It used to be a little bit lonely. We were given a VHS videocassette of the marriage that no person will ever see, that we’ve buried in a box deep beneath the earth’s core.”

Welcoming Their Children

Schmidt welcomed her and Dinklage’s first child in combination, a child girl, in 2011, then again, they've yet to show her identify or exact date of birth.

At the 2012 Golden Globes, Dinklage shared with Access Hollywood that fatherhood was “improbable” and “existence changing.”

In 2015, Dinklage gushed about how “good” his wife is. “She loves theater. Unlike a lot of folks in our career where movie is the ultimate function, theater is sacred to her. It’s no longer entertainment; it’s art,” he advised The Guardian at the time. “She’s very inspiring. She’s undoubtedly the artist of the circle of relatives … I'm simply the TV actor who pays the expenses.”
