'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies': What to Know

Tell me extra! The forthcoming Paramount+ collection Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies will follow a new crop of making a song Rydell High students.

Although the teaser is underscored by the original 1978 film’s classic identify observe, the new musical comedy series boasts 31 new unique songs by hit songwriter Justin Tranter.

Although Rise of the Pink Ladies is a prequel, it was essential to writer Annabel Oakes to preserve the spirit of the OG movie, which starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

“Fans of the unique must be at liberty,” Oakes advised EW in December 2022. “We name Grease the mothership and we all the time are talking about how we have to pay homage and recognize the mothership.”

The Virgingate creator added that she didn’t assume a pure reboot used to be important.

“I thought, ‘Nobody needs a new Grease. The authentic Grease is de facto best possible.’ But then I considered it for a second and I believed, ‘What unanswered questions do I've from Grease?’” she explained “Because everything was once tied up truly properly with Danny and Sandy. But I was like, ‘What was up with the Pink Ladies? Were those girl gangs actual?’ I began googling and I discovered that there were real Pink Ladies at the high school of the original writer of Grease, Jim Jacobs.”

Despite respecting the supply material, the new display won’t shy away from addressing some sides of Grease that haven’t elderly so well.

“Yeah, there are some lyrics which might be problematic. As you notice, we reference the ones in the pilot and different discussion,” Oakes mentioned all the way through a panel dialogue at the 2023 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in January 2023.

They have been telling really subversive, funny songs and stories about the ‘50s from the ‘70s level of view. Now we’re in the 2020s and we get to comment on what they said in the ‘70s and the ‘50s, which is a groovy experience.”
