Love Is Blind creator Chris Coelen is shutting down negligence, attack and false imprisonment claims made by means of former season Five contestant Tran Dang.
“If any one ever came to us and said they felt unsafe in any way, we'd right away remove them from the experiment and communicate to them, and check out to unravel it,” Coelen stated in a commentary to People on Thursday, October 5. “Unfortunately, in this case, that more or less sentiment was by no means addressed to us in any respect, nor used to be any alleged wrongdoing brought to our attention ever.”
Dang used to be a cast member on season 5 of LIB — which premiered on Netflix remaining month — despite the fact that she used to be now not featured within the show’s newest episodes. Earlier this 12 months, she filed a lawsuit against the series’ manufacturing company, Kinetic Content, claiming she used to be falsely imprisoned on set and was not allowed to do much with out permission from manufacturers.
During her time in the pods — through which she alleged she used to be not allowed to use her cell phone or have her pockets or passport — Dang alleged that manufacturing provided contestants with little food and a whole lot of alcohol to spark interesting conversations.
“While on set, for up to 18 hours in step with day, [Kinetic Content and Delirium TV] required Ms. Dang to request permission to do virtually anything, including use the restroom,” the lawsuit reads. “She used to be prohibited from leaving her lodge room with out categorical permission and stored below 24-hour surveillance.”
Coelen, for his phase, known as the claims “absolutely false,” adding, “We don’t push alcohol. Everyone has constant and regular access to food and water.” When it involves why contestants should frequently ask manufacturers for permission to do positive things, Coelen attributed it to the complicated format of the display’s set.
“In the pods, they’re on a 68,000-square-foot sound stage, where it’s darkish, there’s a lot of other folks, there’s a lot of equipment, and even for me, it’s very confusing to get around from position to position,” he stated, adding the monitoring used to be executed to offer protection to “the integrity of the experiment.”
He continued: “So in the event that they wish to cross to the toilet, they let us know and we have now somebody escort them to the toilet. That is the way it works in the pods. When they're out of the pods, they may be able to cross to the toilet whenever they want.”
In her lawsuit, Dang also claimed that Kinetic Content did nothing in line with her declare that she was sexually assaulted through fellow contestant Thomas Smith — to whom she got engaged in the pods — whilst filming in Mexico. Smith’s lawyer, Kip Patterson, did not remark at the accusations.

“Because of [Kinetic Content and Delirium TV’s] 24-hour surveillance of cast individuals, maximum, if not all, of those tense acts have been likely captured on movie,” Dang’s criticism states. Upon reporting the incident to producers, she was allegedly gaslighted and advised she “was once at fault for what had happened with Thomas Smith through no longer communicating successfully or one way or the other now not taking the ‘courting’ seriously.”
Coelen, alternatively, claimed Dang did not deliver up any assault claims to manufacturers, and that they'd have got rid of her from the filming if she did. “We have round-the-clock psychologists, a extremely skilled production crew, we have now an entire battalion of people that’s [sic] process it is to ensure that we prioritize our player’s well-being,” he stated. “But the participant has to be actively occupied with that process.”
Kinetic Content, LLC and Delirium TV, LLC also addressed the lawsuit in a joint observation to Us Weekly on Friday, October 6. “We reinforce and stand with victims of sexual attack, but Ms. Dang’s claims against the producers are meritless. We record the impartial alternatives of adults who volunteer to take part in a social experiment. Their adventure is not scripted, nor is it filmed across the clock. We have no knowledge or keep watch over over what happens in non-public living spaces when not filming, and members may select to finish their adventure at any time,” their statement reads.”
The commentary continues: “We take any and all considerations of our contributors seriously and prioritize their well-being. Obviously, we can't address undisclosed concerns, and all through the time that Ms. Dang used to be involved within the production of Love is Blind, she by no means knowledgeable the producers of any alleged wrongdoing of any kind. Nor did she choose to end her participation in the experiment. Instead, Ms. Dang endured within the experiment for weeks after the time her lawyers now declare an incident took place. We deny and can vigorously protect the allegations in opposition to us.”
