Ahead of season 3, author Josh Pate showed that JJ and Kiara will be “the big romance” of the season.
“Later on within the season, almost a whole episode is dedicated to that relationship. It used to be a big card we really sought after to play and make it a large thing,” he shared with Entertainment Weekly in February 2023. “We didn’t wish to do it too fast, so we idea season 3 can be a great time to explore that, and I’m truly pleased with the best way that came out. It’s a few of my favourite scenes of the whole season.”

The screenwriter noted that “internal struggles” would create issues for the pair. “So it gained’t be like a romantic rival [coming between them], at least now not for a while, however more like JJ’s demons and how is he going to care for his traumatized previous and settle into one thing that’s healthy with out being self-destructive,” he persevered. “That’s going to be great to peer.”
