Sarah Hyland is speaking out about her abusive ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop. During an interview with Meredith Vieira, who used to be also a sufferer of abuse all the way through her 20s, the Modern Family star shared how she’s overcoming her “adversity.”

“There are two quotes that I want to say,” Hyland, 23, mentioned on Vieira’s sunlight hours talk display with out directly referencing her former boyfriend of 5 years. “One is a Dylan Thomas poem: ‘Do not move gentle into that good night. Hyland added: “People have to head through things in order to transform the individual they are as of late, and that’s that.”

As previously reported by Us Weekly, the actress filed for a restraining order towards Prokop after claiming she feared for her existence following a sequence of abusive incidents, together with when Propkop allegedly choked her with “a grip so tight that [she] may no longer breath or talk.” On Oct. 6, the celebrity was granted a three-year restraining order towards the actor, who will have to now keep 100 yards from her, her area, and her dog, as well as no longer cross near her administrative center, not personal a gun, and no longer assault or threaten her canine whatsoever.

Hyland first met Prokop whilst auditioning for High School Musical 3: Senior Year in 2008. They later starred together in Disney Channel’s original movie Geek Charming in 2011.
