The Amazing Race season 36 contestants Angie and Danny Butler’s removal was once a hard one to watch as it got here all the way down to something outside in their control.
The mother-son duo had an opportunity at beating out Ricky Rotandi and Cesar Aldrete for the first-place end throughout the Wednesday, May 1, episode, till they lost their manufacturing crew on the road. The pageant rules state that groups can’t move on without their digicam crews, so Angie, 55, and Danny, 27, had to take a seat and wait at the final detour as different teams passed them.
Although the episode made it appear to be their crew showed up sooner or later, Angie and Danny have since printed that wasn’t the case.
“They had me say the line like, ‘Hey, our crew is right here.’ Our crew wasn’t there,” Danny exclusively told Us Weekly on Thursday, May 2. “I don’t know why they made up our minds — possibly it’s because we had waited so long — however they just grabbed some other crew that was once already there and [had been] like, ‘Hey, they’re going to take you right down to the beach.’ And so most likely about 30 minutes into the detour I feel is when we ended up seeing our cameramen again.”
Danny also ventured a bet as to why it took their crew see you later to seek out them after taking the incorrect turn at a roundabout.
“It used to be a local riding them. I feel the local actually simply got lost for an hour and a half, although the challenge used to be, like, Sixteen mins [or] 17 minutes from [the place we lost them],” he mentioned.
Angie added that the crew that ended up filming them throughout the final detour used to be at the seashore once they first arrived, and presented to step in for the lost crew. However, producers determined that she and Danny will have to look forward to their very own team.

“There’s some of these meetings occurring because it’s unprecedented,” she explained. “And to their protection, I don’t think any one knew what to do. So, it used to be a learning revel in.”
Despite feeling powerless as they waited for his or her crew, Angie and Danny are content material with the occasions that ended in their removal.
“If we were eliminated as a result of one thing mom had completed, I believe like mom would’ve been in reality unhappy [and felt like], ‘I let you down,’” Danny defined. “I used to be a superfan. I was like, ‘I can’t let my buddies clown me for something I do. I will be able to’t be eliminated on a roadblock or getting lost.’ And to move out in some way that we had 0 keep watch over over [used to be better].”
While Danny and Angie steadily finished towards the back of the pack early in the season, they hit their stride a few episodes in. During final week’s episode, they finished in second position in spite of beginning half-hour at the back of the first team.
“I feel we found out learn how to race,” Danny mentioned of their marked improvement. After going into the competition convinced that he and his mom were “going to be a powerful crew,” Danny admittedly got concerned when the warmth took a toll on Angie right through the first day.
“I used to be fearful for her as a child and I right away went like, ‘Alright, we’re just going to have a fun revel in. Let’s move so far as we will be able to,’” he recalled. “But then after the fourth leg, once we got 3rd position, I went, ‘Nah, we’re successful this. We’re profitable this. It’s not about the a laugh.’ And you saw that mental shift of like, ‘Alright, we’re competing.’”

Angie added that her “confidence grew” as the pageant went on. She recalled a second from an previous episode when she considered giving up on a challenge and taking a penalty as she struggled to experience in a sizzling automotive wearing a protective swimsuit.
“I were given again in that automotive. After that I was like, ‘OK. We’ve got this found out. I will be able to do hard,’” she said. “It might look dramatic, there might be tears, however I will do it. And the handiest explanation why I felt like I may just do this is because Danny saved [giving me] encouragement.”
